University of Illinois Weeds Team Compete in North Central Weeds
Contest

Nine students at the University of Illinois took part in the North
Central Weed Science Society Weeds Contest on July 17. The contest
is made up of four parts including unknown herbicide identification,
weed identification, farmer problem, and sprayer calibration (including
a written test and team exercise).
Nick Fassler, graduate student in Crop Sciences, took home a plaque
for first place in the written calibration problem.
Members of the undergraduate team were Dustin Alderks, Jed Kempel,
Josh Kunkel, and Jeff Shelby. The graduate team was comprised of
Rebecca Bierman, Nick Fassler, Kevin Kelley, and Federico Trucco.
William Patzoldt competed as an individual graduate student. Students
were coached by Dawn Nordby.
